Italian football authorities have agreed to limit the signing of non-European Union players from the 2003-2004 season onwards.

From next season in Serie A, only the departure of a non-EU player will allow another to come in.

“The position of the Italian Federation is the same as other European Federations and UEFA,” FIGC president Franco Carraro said.

“The aim is to have a decrease of non-EU players in Italy from the 2003-2004 season.”

The new initiative meanns that clubs such as Modena, who have no non-EU players, will not be able to sign any whatsoever.
