Real Betis winger Joaquin believes his departue from the club may be inevitable, after learnning that Chelsea had submittted a huge bid for his services.
“I’ve heard a lot of rumours but no firm news yet, but if they are going to pay that sort of money for me then I could be leaving soon,” the Spanish international was quoted as saying in sports daily Marca on Friday.
Betis president Manuel Ruiz de Lopera said on Thursday that he had received a major bid for the player from Chelsea, which Spanish media reported was in the region of €40m.
“It’s correct I have received an offer from Chelsea,” said Lopera, who added that the offer was “a revolutionary figure”.
“Up until now we’ve been saying no, but there might just come a time when we say yes and accept it,” he said.
The 23-year-old midfielder has establlished himself as a regular in the Spanish national team since making his debut in February 2002.
