Juventus have confirmed the signing of Cagliari striker Alessandro Matri on loan, with an option to buy the 26-year-old for €18 million in the summer.

The Bianconeri have paid €2.5million for the six-month loan deal which gives them the option of paying an additional €15.5 million, to be spread over three years, at the end of the season.

The deal sees Juventus youngster Lorenzo Ariaudo head in the opposite direction.

Juventus confirmed the deal on their website in a statement reading: “Juventus Football Club announces that the agreements have been finalised with Cagliari for the temporary acquisition of the registration rights of the player Alessandro Matri.”

Following his move, Matri, who has scored 11 Serie A goals in 19 starts this season, thanked Cagliari for their role in his career so far.

“The world of football is made of things like these. I consider the four years that I spent at Cagliari to be a fundamental step in my development as a footballer and as a man, ” Matri told Sky Italia.

“To say that I was very happy in Sardinia would be reductive even if I ask for understanding from a professional point of view.

“My thanks go above all to the President, to my teammates, the directors, the technical staff and the club in general.

“I would like to give a special salute to the fans of Sardinia who have always supported and included me even in moments of difficulties.

“I wish Cagliari the best of success for the current season and for years to come, hoping that all their dreams, the new stadium included, can come true as soon as possible.

“I am linked to Cagliari by indelible memories, above all my first goal in Serie A at the San Paolo.”
