Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is confident he will be selected as Germany’s stopper for the 2006 World Cup finals.

“Before the match against Italy Jurgen Klinsmann told me that I was the number one. I’m taking him at his word,” Kahn told Bild.

“I’ve achieved everything that was expected of me these past two years. I’ve consistently played at a high level. Jurgen knows that he can have confidence in me,” he added.

Klinsmann has yet to decide who will be his keeper at the finals but has confirmed that he will make his choice between Kahn and Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann before the end of the Bundesliga season mid-May.

Last yeat Lehmann said he too was convinced hat he would get the nod ahead of Kahn.

“I’m sure I’ll be in goal,” he told Bild last September.
