Georgian defender Kakha Kaladze has signed a new five-year contract with Milan, the club have confirmed.

Kaladze had been expected to join Chelsea after reportedly agreeing personal terms but the two clubs were unable to agree a fee.

“Surely I’m a little disappointed for the way in which things with Chelsea went, but I can do nothing,” Kaladze told Gazetta dello Sport.

“I’m a Milan player and surely this isn’t a bad situation. If the two clubs haven’t found an agreement for the moment I can say I’ll remain a Milan player.”

The former Dynamo Kiev left-back’s current deal with Milan was due to expire in June 2006, but his new contract will keep him athe club until 2010.
