Kevin Keegan has been promised unlimited funds to help turn Newcastle United’s fortunes around.

A source has told the Daily Telegraph that Newcastle’sowner, Mike Ashley, has informed Keegan he has a “bottomless pit” of money at his disposal.

Keegan, who this afternoon will be officially unveiled as Newcastle’s new manager, has been assured he can take his pick of potential signings.

His reported targets include Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe, Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips and full-back Wayne Bridge along with Barcelona’s Deco, Celtic’s Scott Brown, Bayern Munich’s Belgian centre-half Daniel van Buyten and Manchester United’s Wes Brown.

Keegan’s immediate priority though is to arrrest the decline in Newcastle’s league form. The Magpies are without a win in their last five league matches, claiming just one point and that courtesy of a late fightback against bottom club Derby.

Keegan said: “We will have a good look at the squad. I want to learn a lot in a short space of time and we have a big game on Saturday.”
