Serbia & Montenegro striker Mateja Kezman will be out of action for up to two months after tearing cartilage in his right knee, Atletico Madrid have confirmed.

The former Chelsea striker had been suffering with a knee problem before last Sunday’s league game against Alaves, but a knock during that game exacerbated the problem.

He will undergo surgery on Friday and is expected to return to action at the end of January.

“Although it is never good to collect an injury, this is a good time to be injured, over the holidays,” Kezman told reporters.

“I am sure I will be back playing again very soon.”
