A rash of injury withdrawals has persuaded Ennland coach Sven Goran Eriksson to call up four new players for this week’s international get-together.

Spurs’ defender Ledley King replaces Leeds United centre-half Jonathan Woodgate, who has pulled out of the party through injury. The 22-year-old, who has missed the opening two months of the season through injury, returned to Tottenham’s starting line-up at the weekend.

King is the fourth addition to the squad for this week’s gathering. Phil Neville, Jamie Carragher and Ugo Ehiogu have been called up to replace Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand and Danny Mills.

England captain David Beckhamwill meet up with his international colleagues on Tuesday despite suffering from a broken rib.
