Chelsea have confirmed today that they will make a decision in the next 24 hours, with Guus Hiddink and Avram Grant the rumoured two short-listed.

Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear is set to undergo an emergency heart bypass operation after spending five days in hospital.

The 62-year-old – who suffered a heart attack when he was manager of Wimbledon in 1999 – was due to be discharged by his doctors but an angiogram revealed complications in his condition.

Kinnear was taken ill before Newcastle’s match against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns last Saturday – just over four months after taking charge of the Premier League club.

Assistant coaches Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood would take joint charge as the Magpies battle against relegation.
