Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland will miss the rest of the season and EURO 2004 because of injury.

Kirkland is struggling to recover from a broken wrist he picked up in a training ground accident last month and Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier admits he is unlikely to play again this season.

“Chris won’t play again this season. He won’t be ready in time,” said Houllier.

“I don’t think he will be fit for the European Championships. He is very unlucky because I am sure he would have gone with the England squad.”

Kirkland was expected to travel to Portugal as England’s third choice keeper behind Manchester City’s David James and Leeds’ Paul Robinson, but his injury means that Leicester’s Ian Walker looks likely to earn a place in the squad.
