Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert has admitted that he is no longer concerned with playing fpor the Dutch national team.

“To be honest, if I was called up I do not think that I would go,” Kluivert told Newcastle’s The Journal.

“It does not bother me if I am called up or not. That chapter in my life is probably closed.”

The 28-year-old, who is Holland’s all-time leading goalscorer, has not featured since Euro 2004, when Ruud van Nistelrooy was preferred as a lone striker.

After a hesitant start at Newcastle, Kluivert has regained his scoring touch in recent weeks and he admittted that he hopes his form will earn him a permanent deal at St James’ Park.

“All I care about is Newcastle United and doing well for Newcastle,” he said.

“I am desperate to stay here because I am enjoying my football and I am very happy on and off the pitch.”
