Barcelona president Joan Laporta has dismissed reports that he is about to resign from his position.

Laporta was reported to be poised step down after losing a confidence vote in his administration at the weekend. However, he has now stated he will remain in charge and he has informed his fellow directors of his decision.

“I do not have any intention of resigning,” Laporta told reporters.

“We are legitimised to carry on and we have to be coherent and responsible to ensure calm returns to the club and that we can all move forward.

“We have overcome the motion and we are all pleased about that because it leaves us with a renewed desire.

“In Europe they are congratulating us for the important job we are doing at the club.”

And Laporta acknowledged that his decision to stay convince see other members of Barcelona’s board of directors to leave Camp Nou.

“I have the support of a great part of the board, but I understand that this can affect some people on a personal level. If there are changes made I will understand,” Laporta added.
