Favourites for the UEFA cup, Lazio, eased past Turkish side Besiktas last night to book a place in the semi-finals.

After a 1-0 win in Italy in the first leg, Lazio were in the driving seat from the start and killed Besiktasoff with 2 goals in the opening ten minutes.

The goals coming from Stefano Fiore and Lucas Castroman. The game finally ended 3-1 on aggregate with Sergen getting a consolation goal for Besiktas late on.

Lazio coach Roberto Mancini was delighted with his side’s performance.

“We scored two quick goals and things were easier for us after that.”said Mancini.

“Besiktas attacked and we wisely benefited from their mistakes.”

His opposite number, Mircea Lucescu believed the real damage was done in Rome in the first leg.

The Romanian said: “Luck was on their side. The result of the first match affected this one as we would not have attacked so much if we hadn’t needed to score.”
