Lazio are determined to retain the services of coach Roberto Mancini, despite speculation linking him with a move away from the cash-strapped Serie A club.

Mancini was recently linkedÊwith the vacancy at Tottenham amid rumours he had become frustrated with the financial troubles affecting Lazio.

However, Lazio are desperate to keep hold of someone who is regarded as one of the most promising coaches in Italy.

“He’s a fundamental pawn in our rebuilding plans,” stated chief officer Giuseppe Masoni to Corriere dello Sport.

“He is one of the best coaches in Europe and is a pivotal part of Lazio.”

Masoni is confiden tat the club has turned the corner and will be in a position to repel any bids for their leading players.

“I’m quite optimistic over the club’s future because we have prepared an excellent plan of recovery,” explained Masoni.

“There is no risk that we will have to sell off our most important players in January.”
