Paul Le Guen has confirmed he has held talks with Rangers abut the prospect of replacing Alex McLeisd as Rangers coach at the end of the season.

McCleish will step down in the summer after being told that his services would no longer be required by chairman David Murray.

The former Lyon coach told French television channel Canal Plus: “We are discussing but we have not yet reached the point where we sign a contract.”

The Frenchman’s assistant Yves Colleu watched Sunday’s Old Firm game and told the Daily Record: “We do not have a lot of precious time to give our answer.

“But I should be able to tell you a lot more by Wednesday.”

Le Guen won three consecutive league titles with Lyon before leaving the club at the end of last season.
