Atletico Paranaense have rejected a bid by Leeds United for Brazilian World Cup midfielder Kleberson, it hasbeen revealed today.

Leeds Director of PR and corporate affairs David Walkerhad talks with Atletico President Mario Celsa Petraglia on Wednesday to discuss the proposed transfer. However, the two clubs were unable to agree a fee.

Atletico spokesman Carlos Manoel Guimares said: “The Leeds representatives were here yesterday, nothing happened and he has not been sold … He is still an Atletico player and is training with the team.”

Any improved bid from the Yorkshire club has been placed in jeopardy by the news Leeds striker Robbie Fowler has rejected a move to Manchester City. The club were hoping to use part of his fee to fund Kleberson’s transfer.

The Brazilian club, already with reported losses of œ1 million over the last year, will be anxious to get a good price for their prize asset. After Kleberson’s impressive performances in the World Cup finals, there will be no shortage of clubs interested in securing his sevices.
