Olympiakos have sacked coach Panagiotis Lemonis despite the fact that the club are joint top of the Greek League.

“Olympiakos announce the ending of their contract with Lemonis,” a club statement said today.

“The club would like to thank Lemonis for his service and announce the appointment of Yiannis Kollias for a temporary period.”

Lemonis has been temporarily replaced by former Greece Under-21 trainer Yiannis Kollias.

Despite leading the clubto successive championships in his first two seasons in management, Lemonis was unable guide the club past the first group stage of the Champions League and it is understood the Olympiakos hierarchy are looking for a high profile successor capable of delivering success in Europe.

Lemonis , 42, succeeded Yiannis Mantzourakis in November 2000.
