Levante have appointed Italian Gianni De Biasi as their new coach.

The Spaniards sacked Abel Resino after a disappointing start to the new La Liga season and have turned to De Biasi.

De Biasi has joined Levante after agreement with his former club Torino was reached.

“Having been allowed to go by Torino, De Biasi will sign a contract for the rest of the season with the option to extend for next season if we stay up,” Levante President Julio Romero stated.

De Biasi steered Modena from Serie C1 to Serie A for the first time in 38 years, kept Brescia in the top flight for two seasons and led Torino to promotion.

He returned to Torino last season taking charge of the team after a poor run of results and helped them preserve their Serie A status.

“I’m really motivated about this experience,” De Biasi told a news conference at the club.

“I’ve always been fascinated by Spanish football.

“I think there is a good squad that is capable of getting back on the right track. The players have the quality to get out of this situation but everyone has to do their bit and give 100 percent.”
