Newly promoted Valencia-based side Levante are hoping to add Alan Shearer to their ranks.
Although Shearer has already stated that this season will be his last, Levante want to sign the ex-England captain on a two-year contract.
A spokesman for the club said: “His arrival is by no means impossible.”
Levante have already signed Ireland left-back Ian Harte this summer are also looking to take Manchester Utd’s Diego Forlan on loan.
The club have always been under the shadow of their illustrious neighbours Valencia, but are hoping that a few big name signings can help to reddress the balance somewhat.
