National coach Rudi Voller has recalled central defender Thomas Linke for Germany’s Opening Euro 2004 qualifeir against Lithuania in Kaunas.

Linke had announced his retirement from national team football after helping Germany finish surprise runners-up in the World Cup in South Korea and Japan in June.

An injury crisis, however, prompted Voller to ask the Bayern defender to think again.

Back in the squad is goalkeeper Oliver Kahn and Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann, both of whom missed the recent friendly against Georgia because of injury.
