Liverpool have signed Luis Garcia from Barcelona for £6m subject to a medical, according to the Spanish club.

“I am happy for him because he is on the verge of signing for a big club,” revealed Barcelona’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain.

Garcia, 23 could become the third Spanish player to arrive at Anfield within the week

Real Madrid’s Antonio Nunez signed as part of the deal which took Michael Owen to the Bernabeu and Real Sociedad’s Xabi Alonso is expected to sign within the next few days. Moreover, new Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, signed Malaga defender Josemite, earlier in the summer.

“This Friday morning the transfer of Luis Garcia should be completed,” Begiristain added.

“The agreement between the two clubs is practically done. Liverpool will pay the buy-out clause of nine million euros.

“We didn’t know if Luis Garcia was going to perform the same way this season as he did last time, but I congratulate him (on the move).”
