Simon Hopper thinks Shakhtar Donetsk can get a result on the night when they host Barcelona in tonight’s Champions League quarter-final 2nd leg…

Barcelona have shown an interest in Anderlecht teenage striker Romelu Lukaku, but have been deterred by the player’s price tag.

Anderlecht are said to be looking for around €20 million for Lakaku, but the player’s agent says Barca were not prepared to offer more than €6 million.

England seems a more likely destination for the 17-year-old, with Chelsea known to be tracking the player, but agent Christophe Henrotay they are one of many leading European clubs monitoring the striker.

He told the Het Nieuwsblad: “Europe’s top clubs are interested Yes, Barcelona inquired, but at the asking price they would rather go for a Spanish player.

“If Romelu only cost six million then he would have gone to Barcelona. The problem is that for many clubs he has been too expensive.

“Up to now there have been two written offers but at the end of the season I expect that many clubs will be knocking on our door.”

On Lukaku’s poor recent strike rate – he has scored only twice for his Belgian club since Christmas – Henrotay added: “He is still developing his game. He has also had a few injuries and felt the pressure. Romelu is only 17 years of age, it is certainly nothing alarming.

“Interested teams have not been influenced by criticism in the media.”
