Lyon have agreed to sign Bordeaux playmaker, Yoann Gourcuff, in a deal believed to be worth around €22 million.

The 24-year-old has been a long-term target for Lyon, who revealed last month that Gourcuff wanted to move to Stade Gerland.

“Clubs Olympique Lyonnais and FC Girondins de Bordeaux have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Yoann Gourcuff,” a press release from Bordeaux read. “This transfer will be effective soon.

“This transfer will take place in preserving the interests of the Bordeaux club, in full agreement with the coach and the coaching staff and in accordance with the contractual commitments of the player.

“The Club will have the opportunity to communicate very soon and to reaffirm its ambitions before the season begins.”

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has declared his delight that Gourcuff will soon be joining his club.

“Yoann wanted to play in Lyon and participate in the Champions League,” Aulas told RMC.

“From our side, we made a big financial effort because the purchase of Yoann Gourcuff is a significant investment.

“What we want is to see great players grow together. And Yoann truly is a wonderful player. He also corresponds well with the image of Olympique Lyonnais. My priority was really to sign him, but the trigger was the [long-term] injury of Ederson. At that time we decided to do everything to get him.”
