Lyon are angry that Giovane Elber underwent further surgery without their consent.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas revealed that the club are likely to take action against Elber following the player’s decision to travel to Germany to undergo an operation which was not sanctioned by the club.

“We can’t really understand it, but that is something that is not really positive and it looks like a professional misconduct,” said Aulas.

“We will see how it will go on. But we will take measures.

“It is the second time he has broken his contract: He had already put his foot back on the ground earlier than when the doctors said.”

Lyon coach Paul Le Guen was also unhappy with Elber’s behaviour.

“When he asked, I allowed Giovane to spend a fortnight in a Stuttgart rehabilitation centre where he wanted to go. But we never talked about a new operation in Germany,” said Le Guen.

“Also he didn’t tell us anything about the evolution of his situation, as we knew about the surgery indirectly.

“All I can say is I am disappointed and annoyed by his behaviour.”
