Real Madrid have denied reports that striker Fernando Morientes is for sale.

The club made the announcement on their official website.

“In front of the appearance of certain information that points to the possibility of Fernando Morientes leaving Real Madrid, the club has manifested that the player is not for sale.

“Real Madrid consider Morientes an important player in the make-up of its first team, and in this sense want to state its wish to continue being able to call upon him in the immediate future, and denying the possibility of putting the player on the market.”

The statement comes amid speculation that the Spanish international was set to join Liverpool or return to Monaco, when the transfer window opens in January.
