Roy Makaay is on course to win this season’s ESM Golden Shoe, with PSV striker Mateja Kezman looking like his only realistic challenger.

Deportivo La Coruna striker Makaay has scored 27 goals this season and with five games remaining, looks likely to secure the title as Europe’s most prolific striker.

Kezman was on target twice for PSV Eindhoven as they strolled to a 7-0 victory at home against SC Excelsior.

The challenge from England is over with Ruud van Nistelrooy finishing the season as the leading scorer in the Premier League with 25 goals for champions Manchester United. The Dutchman finished one goal ahead of Arsenal’s Thierry Henry and Southampton’s James Beattie.

Elsewhere, Monaco striker Shabani Nonda scored twiceÿto move him up to seventh with 22 goals, while Giovane Elber hit a hat-trick for Bayern Munich in Germany to move into eleventh spot with 19 goals. ÿ
