Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele says he is glad he changed his mind about retiring from international football.

Makelele initially retired from international duty following the World Cup only for Raymond Domenech to select up regardless. The move prompted Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho to complain about the treatment of his player, suggesting that the decision to force him to play was akin to slavery.

However, Makelele is glad the issue has finally been settled.

“For me it is a good decision now,” explained Makelele. “The national team want me to come and help and it is a difficult decision.

“The most important thing now is that Chelsea and I have a good feeling about it.

“The manager told me it is okay and gave me a good feeling for the national team.

“I need to help the national team reach the finals.”
