France’s Claude Makelele picked up a knock in his country’s dramatic victory against England and now looks doubtful for their next Group B game against Croatia in Leiria on Thursday.

The Chelsea midfielder picked up the injury when he tangled with England’s Emile Heskey. It was the challenge that led to a free kick and France’s 91st minute equaliser against England on Sunday evening. Makelele left the ground with his arm in a sling.

A win for France against the Croats on Thursday would put them safely into the quarter finals.

“It is a problem with my collarbone,” the Frenchman said.

“I fell awkwardly after colliding with Heskey. I hope I will be ok for the next match, but we will have to wait for a few days to see how it develops.”
