Paolo Maldini has confirmed that he plans to retire when his current Milan contract expires in 2007.

The 37-year-old Milan skipper has become an iconic figure at the San Siro, providing 20 years of service to the Rossoneri.

Maldini also revealed that Real Madrid tried to lure him away from the Giuseppe Meazza in 2002.

“When will I quit? In 2007, when my contract will expire,” he confirmed.

“It’s true that three years ago Real Madrid looked at me. Florentino Perez made me a proposal but I didn’t want to leave Milan.”
