World Cup qualifier Group 8
Sweden welcome back Henrik larrson for their opening group 8 match against Malta on Saturday.
The veteran striker, now at Barcelona after a summer move from Celtic, missed last week’s 2-2 draw with Holland, but is back in the frame as part of coach Lars Lagerback’s 22 man squad.
Stade Rennes midfielder Kim Kallstrom has also earned a recall, after missing last week’s game with illness.
Malta, whose sole victory in World cup qualifying history came way back in 1993 against Estonia, have an inexperienced feel to their current squad, with Coach Horst Heese, opting for a more youthful feel.
One of the main casualties of Heese’s cull is 36-year-old former skipper David Carabott, who won a record 121 caps for his country.
