Manchester City have signed former Everton left-back Michael Ball from PSV Eindhoven for an undisclosed fee.

Ball, 27, who also played for Rangers, has signed a contract until the end of the season.

Ball won one England cap, playing against Spain in Sven-Goran Eriksson’s first game in charge in February 2001.

He becomes manager Stuart Pearce’s second signing of the transfer window, following Djamel Abdoun’s move from French club Ajaccio to Eastlands.

Everton sold Ball to Rangers for £6.5m in 2001, but his career in Glasgow was blighted by a serious knee injury. He moved to PSV in 2005 on a free transfer, but lack of form meant he made only a handful of appearances in Holland.
