Marseille have sacked coach Philippe Troussier, the club’s chairman Pape Diouf has confirmed.

“His mission has come to an end,” Diouf told reporters after a meeting of the club’s supervisory board.

“We have thanked him for all his efforts.”

Diouf said a decision on Troussier’s replacement would not be taken before next week.

The former Japan coach, who joined Marseille in November on a two-year deal to replace Jose Anigo, was fired after his team failed to qualify the team for next season’s UEFA Cup.

The team finished fifth in the Ligue 1 standings after conceding a 3-3 draw at Bordeaux on the last day.
