Marseille have not given up hope of signing Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse on loan until the end of the season.

Marseille have openly declared their interest in the former Auxerre man as they hope to tempt him with a return to France.

However, Cisse claimed just last week that he was happy at Liverpool and intended to stay at the club.

Nonetheless, Marseille are still pursuing their interest in the striker.

“Of course I have read and heard what was said about it and I believe Djibril has clearly given his opinion on that but we have not abandoned our hopes,” Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo told L’Equipe.

“I am not disappointed by what he said, he was clear enough but he is still in our minds.

“We have not discussed anything directly with him and his position does not bother me. But in football what you say one day might not be the truth any more the next.”

Anigo also revealed that the club had held talks with Barcelona over a possible deal for Maxi Lopez.
