French side Marseille are set to announce Philippe Troussier as their new coach.

The former Japan manager has yet to sign the contract binding him to the French giants but it is clear the club has chosen him to take over the team’s reins after former boss Jose Anigo resigned two days ago.

Marseille general manager Pape Diouf said: “The new coach, who will most probably be Philippe Troussier, will lead the team for next week’s game against Caen.

“Troussier has achieved great results in the past and is the right person for us. He is experienced and courageous.”

Marseille lie in 7th spot in the French league table.

Only 48 hours after Anigo’s resignation this week club president Christophe Bouchet also confirmed that he would step down from his position.

He said: “You need to take your responsibilities. The club needed some drastic and energetic changes.

“Jose took his responsibilities. I have decided to take mine today.”

Bouchet is likely to remain in charge until the winter break though to oversee completion of a number of projects, including finding his own successor.
