Everton have completed the loan signing of US World Cup striker Brian McBride, after the American was granted a work permit.

McBride, who has experience of English football, having enjoyed a loan spell at Preston while current Everton boss David Moyes was in charge at Deepdale, had already agreed to the move but could not complete his signing until granted a permit.

The Columbus Crew striker atttracted the attention of several clubs following an impressive World Cup showing, during which he scored twice.

McBride, 30, will return to the United States for the seasonal opener on April 5.

‘We’re delighted to have Brian,’ manager David Moyes told the club’s official website.

‘He’s someone who I’ve known for a while and he’ll provide us with some much needed cover up front as suspensions and injuries kick in. Brian will give us an attacking presence.’

Egypt defender Ibrahim Said, who agreed a move to Goodison Park on the same day as McBride, is expecting his work permmit to be granted within the next few days.
