Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker has ended speculation about his future by confirming he will be staying at the club.

The 25-year-old centre-half has been linked with a move to a number of clubs, with Premier League outfit Arsenal rumoured to be interested in his signature.

But the Germany internationa has now revealed he will remain at the Weserstadion.

“I’m staying at Bremen,” Mertesacker told Bild.

“There have been so many rumours concerning me, but I’ve never had to be concerned because none were concrete.”

Mertesacker moved to Bremen from Hannover 96 after an impressive showing in the 2006 World Cup.
