Barcelona’s Lionel Messi doubts whether he could ever play under Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was employed by Barcelona, first as Sir Bobby Robson’s translator before becoming Louis van Gaal’s assistant, but his relationship with the club has since gone downhill.

He feuded with the club while in charge of Chelsea and he upset fans even further last season after guiding Inter’s Champions League success over the club.

Mourinho is regarded as the best player in the world at the moment, but he doubts he could work with Mourinho, regarded as one of the leading coaches in world football.

“It would be very difficult, no?” he told Mundo Deportivo when asked if he could work with Mourinho.

“If Mourinho came to Barcelona he would have to speak in another way.

“I don’t have anything against Mourinho, or against anybody, and the people who work with him speak very well of Mourinho.

“Nor do I think I would have any problems but I don’t think it will happen.”

Messi, Fifa World Player of the Year in 2009, hopes to score his first goal against a team coached by Mourinho when Real and Barcelona meet on 29th November in the first El Clasico match of the season.

“Until now it has not happened and hopefully it will happen in the match against Madrid, but the goal would not be against Mourinho but against Real Madrid. It would make me happy for my own good and for the team, nothing else,” he concluded.
