Middlesbrough have agreed a fee with Tottenham for Egyptian striker Mido.
Mido, 24, is undergoing a medical and the Teessiders are hopeful of completing a deal before Thursday.
“We have agreed a fee with Tottenham and that has enabled us to have him up to see us,” said Southgate.
“He’s currently in the process of having his medical and hopefully, if everything goes well, we’ll have some news in the next 36 hours.”
Mido has fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane following the arrival of Darren Bent in a £16.5m move from Charlton this summer.
