Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has hinted that the Serie A club are interested in signing Chelsea defender William Gallas.

The versatile Frenchman has been linked with a move to Italy as he has failed to secure a central defensive role in Chelsea’s rearguard. Coach Jose Mourinho has preferred to play him at full-back this season although Gallas himself admits that he is much more comfortable playing in the middle.

Milan are desperate for new players to shore up an ageing backline, and Galliani has suggested that Gallas would fit in well at the club.

“Gallas still has one year left in his contract with his club,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“All I can say is we like French players because they are able to adapt better to our football than the rest of the Europeans.”
