Arsenal kick-off their Champions League campaign in Kiev tonight – can Theo inspire again, this time in Europe?

Milan have dismissed reports claiming the club are trying to sign Brazilian defender Thiago Silva.

Speculation has suggested that Milan were involved in a battle with city rivals Inter to sign the player during the January transfer window.

But Milan have dismissed the reports and confirmed that they are unable to sign the player as they already have two foreigners registered for this season.

“In some newspapers today they tried to make Milan look like they are in competition with another club for the purchase of Brazilian player Thiago Silva,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

“In reality, there wasn’t and there will not be competition, because Milan, having already registered two foreigners for this season, is not amongst the clubs who can register Thiago Silva.”

The 23-year-old admits he is happy to stay with Fluminense until the end of the year.

Thiago Silva told the Brazilian media: “I could have left Fluminense, but I want to do what I have promised to the supporters and I am going to stay at least until the end of the year.”
