Newcastle United have completed the signing of Senegal defender Lamine Diatta.
Diatta, was available on a free transfer after leaving Turkish club Besiktas, and he has now signed on a deal until the end of the season.
“We have not got much cover if we pick up any more injuries to our defenders, and Diatta will provide this,” said Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan.
The player himself was pleased to have sealed his switch.
“We will discuss my long-term future when the season ends,” he told L’Equipe.
“I don’t know if I’ll be able to start against Liverpool on Sunday because my new club have to receive a letter from the Turkish FA before Friday.”
