Newcastle are due to complete the signing of Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker later today.
The 24-year-old England man is undergoing a medical at St James’ Park and provided there are no complications he will complete his £6.5m move to St James Park.
Everton dropped out of the race to sign Parker leaving the way clear for Newcastle to move in.
“He is a player we like very much and we are definitely interested in signing him,” said Souness.
“He’s a player I’ve admired for a very long time and there is no question he will be an excellent signing for us.”
