Sevilla have confirmed that they have yet to discuss a new contract with Luis Fabiano, claiming they are happy to bide their time.

The Brazil international looked set to leave the club this summer, as uncertainty reigned over his future.

However, despite the speculation no deal was forthcoming and Fabiano remained in Spain, pledging to do his best for Sevilla.

Club president Jose Maria Del Nido claims there is no rush to open talks, as he believes Fabiano is going nowhere any time soon.

“I have seen the quotes from the player in the papers, stating that he is committed to the club,” he said.

“Now it is his objective to score as many goals as possible before we re-evaluate the situation.

“The season is very long and we have plenty of time to discuss this topic. I assure you that there are no plans to talk about a contract extension right now.”
