Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez insists he will not panic buy in his search for a right-back in the January transfer window.

It was reported earlier this month that Liverpool were looking for cover for Glen Johnson, who has struggled with injuries and is currently recovering from a tear to his medial knee ligament.

However, Benitez, who has been linked with Olympiakos’ Greece international Vasilis Torosidis, says he will not be taking any gambles as Monday’s transfer deadline looms.

“We have to be careful with what we do,” Benitez told the Liverpool Echo. “There are not too many good players around who are available and we will think about it.

“We still have some time but we will not rush if we cannot find the right player for this position.”
