Peter Crouch and Shaun Wright-Phillips have been recalled to the England set-up for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Belarus, but there was no place for striker Michael Owen in Fabio Capello’s squad.

Owen, 28, was not included in the squad for September’s wins over Andorra and Croatia following injury and illness.

But the striker has played in all of Newcastle’s six games since then and has scored five goals this season.

Joe Cole was not included after he limped out of Chelsea’s win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

A possible replacement in the shape of Ashley Young was not called up – whilst Tottenham duo David Bentley and Jonathan Woodgate were also omitted.

Scott Carson is called-up due to Paul Robinson’s injury, whilst Jimmy Bullard has missed out after being included last time.
