Palermo have sacked manager Delio Rossi and appointed Serse Cosmi as his replacement until the end of the season.

The Sicilian outfit slumped to an remarkable 7-0 defeat at home to Udinese on Sunday and club president Maurizio Zamparini stated after the match that Rossi had just a ‘one per cent chance’ of staying in charge, while he also confirming that Cosmi was a candidate to replace him.

The change has now been confirmed and Cosmi will be in charge for the first time in Sunday’s match at Lazio.

“Palermo announces the appointment of Serse Cosmi as coach of the first team,” a club statement said.

“The Perugia-born coach will train the team tomorrow in Rome and will be unveiled later that day.”

Sunday’s defeat was Palermo’s third straight loss and dropped the Rosanero to eighth in the Serie A standings, with 40 points from 27 games.

Cosmi has plenty of experience having coached Perugia, Genoa, Udinese and Brescia in Serie A.

He was most recently in charge of Livorno from October 2009 until January 2010.
