Paraguay international striker Salvador Cabanas is in a serious condition after being shot in the head in a bar in Mexico City, police in the Mexican capital said Monday.

Cabanas was being treated in intensive care at a Mexico City hospital, the Mexico City prosecutor said.

The incident reportedly took place at 5.3pm local time. Cabanas got involved in a bar-fight which culminated in a shoot-out in the bathroom area of the bar.

“He was shot in the head… the first report is that the bullet entered the front of his head and did not exit,” Mexico City prosecutor, Miguel Angel Mancera, told the news channel Televisa.

Cabanas, 29, He has scored 10 goals in 44 games for Paraguay who have qualified for this year’s World Cup finals in South Africa where they will face Italy, New Zealand and Slovakia.
