Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has confirmed that he received an offer to join Real Madrid and admits he is flattered to be linked to the Spanish champions.

Pennant is out of contract at the end of the season and had been linked with a £3million move to Real.

“I know real Madrid made an offer for me,” Pennant told guillembalague.com.

“Real Madrid is a great club, so is Liverpool.

“I am not sure of the situation now; I am flattered that a club as huge as Real has shown interest in me, so we will have to see.”

The former Arsenal youngster admits that, after two-and-a-half years at Anfield, he cannot imagine joining another English club.

He added: “I haven’t spoken to anybody all these weeks because I wanted to focus on my game, on training hard to convince the manager he can count on me.

“I cannot imagine playing for another Premier League team after Liverpool.”
