Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has been handed a five-match European ban following an incident during the first leg of the Champions League third qualifying round encounter against CSKA Moscow last week.

Rae was accused of kicking Serghei Dadu in the head while he lay on the ground during the match last Tuesday, which Rangers lost 2-1.

Rae denied he had deliberately kicked the goalkeeper.

“The ball was actually there and he put his head down between my foot and the ball,” the former Wolves midfielder said.

“It looked worse than it was, without a doubt. No action was taken by the referee.”
