Spain captain Raul has dropped from the national side for the first time in 10 years when he was left out of the squad for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Sweden.

“I have chosen the players that I think are in the best form at this moment in time,” coach Luis Aragones said. “This is a decision for this match alone.”

Aragones has also dropped winger Joaquin, left back Mariano Pernia and Celta Vigo midfielder Borja Oubina from the squad that suffered a shock defeat by Northern Ireland earlier this month.

Pernia ahs been replaced by Deportivo Coruna left back Joan Capdevila, while Valencia’s winger Miguel Angel Angulo was included.
